I'm seeing no new Good Words in this forum since September 4. The front page does indicate something is happening (today's is listed as careen) but there's nothing showing up here after la-di-da. Other threads are posting new stuff normally.
Anyone else see this?

Ditto here. I worried that I'd "killed it." (The first version of my "la-di-da" "contribution" was pretty "off the wall.") I wondered if the good doctor took offense at your demurral. I thought the doc might be on vacation, but, as you point out, these installments seem to have been prepared well in advance, to be published whether the doctor's "in the house" or not, and to have been released each day since the last new thread was posted here, so it does look like the pipeline to this forum has been blocked. (Is it time to call a plumber? Have etymological roots grown into the pipes, and have they blocked the flow? Can the services of a linguistic "Roto-Rooter" be employed? Gee... I'm not up to the high standards of wit which you people maintain. I promise I won't even try to match wits with you.)

I dunno, I keep getting the new words via email but since they don't make it to the forum, possibly the Doc forgot, or no, I think one of you gents 'killed them'. Perhaps because you are using up the good word discussion space for this speculation, which doesn't exactly go here. [hmmmmmmmm?] I did like the linguistic rotor-rootering, would that make for a boring lexicon?

Jeff, Dr. GW isn't all that thin skinned. Oh and go ahead, match away, we love it.

I am enjoying my vacation sailing down the Rhone that I completely forgot my duties. I was very proud to have written up 20 Good Words in advance--a new record for me--and 'disremembered' as my aunts and uncles used to say that I should be posting them here.
I will try to get them up from here on and if someone would help by putting in the ones I've missed, I would be grateful. I can pay what I am paid.

Well enjoy, Doc! Good on ya.
I guess with your by-your-leave we can copy from the archive and post a second word each day until caught up. Continue to careen downstream and don't forget if you're still at it in three days it's Talk Like a Pirate Day.
I shall derive September 5 and post posthaste.

Sorry; I forgot that you guys had agreed to "hold off" until tomorrow. As you can see, this only took a few minutes "once I'd gotten the hang of it."
I was impatient to ask about the etymology of "blockbuster" (see separate thread). I wonder about ordnance blowing up a city block. It doesn't sound likely. Now, ordinance blowing up a city block... That might be a different story...

I am waiting for "badger" because of its reference to dachshunds which those here should know I am a big fan of! (I have 4.)

The good doctor will return on Thursday. He is sampling some very good wines, by his reports ("a tough job but someone has to do it" comes to mind).
He asked me to post the Good Words (when I emailed him yesterday), but it's great that everyone is pitching in!
