1. Coffee (n.), the person upon whom one coughs.

16. Circumvent (n.), an opening in the front of boxer shorts worn by Jewish men.

The Washington Post's Style Invitational also asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are last year's winners:

1. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops

little sign of breaking down in the near future.

I liked negligent.

(Urban legend has it that variations on this are the only sure-fire ways to permanently discourage certain persistent door-to-door religion salesmen.)

Chuckles: 4,5,7,10, 13, 14, and last year's 1, 8, and maybe 9 and 7. But I'm using oyster.

Surely you don't think that I have ever burned biscuits? (I do love the local bluegrass band The Biscuit Burners, however.)

Stargzer is Flabbergasted and Abdicated. As to Sinvitation, he did take printmaking lo these many years ago in college, but Perry isn't his type. I'll bring some of my etchings for Gailr if I ever get to visit our Denver Regional Office.

I'm sure she'll be an even harsher critic than Bruce "The Bastard" Elliott ever was. :D
