HISTORICAL DICTIONARY OF AMERICAN SLANG

Postby Dr. Goodword » Fri Jan 20, 2006 12:39 am

Be sure to try our new Historical Dictionary of American Slang which provides consistent definitions of words, so that you can easily follow how slang terms change for given meanings (e.g. "to leave": beat it, scram, blow, bug out, hit the road, etc. You can also see how the meanings of the same slang term changes over time, e.g. bug: burglar alarm, secret microphone, glitch, to bother, etc. Just type in either the term or the meaning in the same window.

You can also type in the decade, e.g. 1920, and get the most prominent slang terms of the 20s. As usual, there is nothing on the Web like it.

I just noticed this one, it looks like it could be fun.

Is there a way to make suggestions of additions? PM? Post here?
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

Not only slang, but FADS, FASHIONS, Etc.
I like it. Glad you found it. Almost could be a thread
of its own, or put someplace besides "Site News".
