The root here reminds me of why the funny bone is so called.

It borders on the humerus.

An odd word, since the shoulders are surely above the humerus.

This appears to make it an error that made it into history.
It is interesting that umerus also developed into the Spanish hombro (shoulder). Again, an initial 'h'. Coincidence?

Did the Spanish perhaps regularly add an "h" to certain formations? I admit I know nothing of Spanish.
