I saw this quote and wanted to share, to get your thoughts.

“The temple of art is built of words. Painting and sculpture and music are but the blazon of its windows, borrowing all their significance from the light, and suggestive only of the temple's uses.” ~Josiah Gilbert Holland, used pseudonym Timothy Titcomb, (1819-1881), {Plain Talks on Familiar Subjects--Art and Life}~
Any thoughts?

I tend to agree. Without words, how could we understand what other art forms are "saying?" We would have no way to discuss them, no way to express our feelings and sensations.
That being said, let's not denigrate these art forms, as they put into physical form things that could be very difficult to put into words without the extra layer of something visual.
All art forms play off each other. Words are perhaps most important, but there are times when something leaves us at a loss for words, though we still appreciate it.

Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

Slava,
Well said.
I did not offer my comment at first, because, though I believed, as you, in the value of words, I am also a musician and have often been moved without any verbal expression being necessary or desired.
I'm just glad we have words, music, and art forms all.
Thank you for your thoughtful words, Slava.

We've got or had a couple of other artists here at the Agora. They don't come around much anymore, but they do have websites so you can check out some of their work:

Do you have one, too?

Nice.
I don't have a pretty website, not very techy...
Have a CD, working on the second, but am first a mom, and have been sidetracked by the needs of a sick daughter.
Thanks for asking.
