Okay, I'm reading and snagged another word from 'Little Women', I'll admit, but there are an inordinate number of interesting words in that one! Will you tell me more about 'bijouterie', please? Of course, I am suspecting the French, which is confirmed when I look it up on the internet, but the information is scant and I am a curious gal.

Something that struck me about this word when I looked it up is that has been fully Americanized. It may have roots in French, but the accent isn't on the last syllable, as it would be in French. Have we simply changed the syllabification, or is the -terie part a local addition?
