Agelast

Postby LukeJavan8 » Mon May 09, 2011 12:12 pm

Agelast has to do with a person who never laughs. I don't know if it also refers to smiles, but definitely who never
laughs. I also wonder, because I've known some, if it
is genetic, or could be genetic. Curious word and more
curious concept. The adjective would be agelastic, I presume.

Very interesting word. It's a bit rare, but does have its uses.

It's not in dictionary.com, so I went further to see if I could find out more. Turns out it's a 3-syllable word, not 2. A-ge-last. It's Greek in source.

Just for laughs...

While an agelast never laughs, a hypergelast laughs excessively. When they meet they annihilate each other like matter and anti-matter. Poof! Gone!

Lord'amighty! What an image. Something out of Star Trek.

Ah, the famous moment of epiphany! (A bit overwrought, perhaps, just having screened "The Bedford Incident.")
