Josh'in.

Josh'in.
I don't quite know how to introduce this word, but heard
a couple fellows talking the other day. And one was
telling the other about some thing that impressed him.
The other answered:
"You're josh'in me!". It was used in the sense of
Tricking?, Teasing?, Pulling my leg?, Feeding me a line?.
In short it was like "I don't believe you". "Are you
kidding me?".
I don't know how many others here have heard it,
but I thought it interesting. I've heard it and never
given it a thought in the past. I wonder if there
is a relation to the name "Joshua", which I doubt
as the name means 'savior' in its original Hebrew.

According to the above, "joshing" is indeed probably related to the name Joshua, perhaps as a typical name of an old farmer. The verb is of 19th-century American origin.

Isn't that interesting. I don't know why I did not
try to look it up first. Just me and my lazy
attitude at some things. Easier to ask than to
work on something. But I suppose also growing
up in a non-computer world, forgetting that all
these "helps" are now available using them.
Very interesting on Josh: thanks for taking the
time I did not, to look it up.
