Nice article, thanks Perry. I'd never heard of vocal fry before. Shouldn't that be some kind of Southern cooking?

I have never heard of "vocal fry" either, but then the article mentioned "creaky voice."

See Ladefoged, "A Course in Phonetics" pg. 128 for a photo of the vocal folds producing creaky voice (also called "laryngealization") together a description of its mechanism of articulation (pg 129). Very interesting.
