I know that English is a living language and we cannot keep it from changing. But is there some way to squelch some of the most egregious linguistic innovations? Why has the word “unbelievable” changed from its previous definition to now mean something like “amazing”? It seems to me that Brian Williams started it, or at least he is the major perpetrator. I cringe every time I hear him say something is unbelievable when he obviously believes it. I suppose we must just suffer with indignation.

Welcome Beverly. You'll be at home here. Dare I mention the use of "lay" for "lie," or does everyone on here think it is a lost cause?

Perry, Did you accidentally cross from one thread to another? To what thread did Beverly post?

No, the changing language comment pushed my hot button. On her issue, didn't someone post on flammable-inflammable recently?

Beverly posted here, but as she was a spammer with ads in her signature, Dr. G deleted her.Philip Hudson wrote:Perry, Did you accidentally cross from one thread to another? To what thread did Beverly post?
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
