Group Poem XII

Postby Audiendus » Thu Apr 05, 2012 2:18 pm

It is presidential election year in the US, and here in the UK we will shortly be having an election for Mayor of London. So this poem will be about the absurdities of politics and politicians.

The poem will be of 20 lines, in 5 four-line stanzas, rhyming AABB. Each line will be of 14 syllables, and will contain a word that is the name of an animal (of any kind – mammal, bird, insect etc, but not human), used in a different sense, e.g. "cow" in the sense of "intimidate", or "ram" in the sense of "thrust". Plurals/verb forms with "s" are acceptable.

Please bold the "animal" word in each line, and copy the earlier lines as usual. Here are the title and first line:

The Political Jungle (A Polysemous Menagerie)

The thought of party politics is difficult to bear

The Political Jungle (A Polysemous Menagerie)

The thought of party politics is difficult to bear
The asses and the elephants give everyone a scare
Ars longa, vita brevis

They carp at their opponents till the watching voters quail
And parrot useless platitudes they've learned at Kent or Yale
