ebullience

Postby Klimt » Sun Nov 14, 2010 10:29 pm

1. high spirits; exhilaration; exuberance.

2. a boiling over; overflow.
Whoever wants to know something about me - as an artist which alone is significant - they should look attentively at my pictures and there seek to recognise what I am and what I want.

A nice word with generally positive overtones. I'm not sure how I'd use the second meaning, though. "My cup is ebullient" just doesn't quite do it for me.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

With regard to the second meaning, there is the ebulliometer.

It measures the alcohol content of wines – not high spirits. :)

Well then, it certainly would measure high spirits and low as well, sometimes even hitting a happy medium!
