Obambulate

Postby LukeJavan8 » Sat Sep 15, 2012 12:04 pm

Saw this word, intriguing. Something to do with
wandering about aimlessly. I can see the root, just
wondering how it developed.

In my part of the country there is a not so small industry devoted to the derrogation of the prez. This sounds like something the tea party brewed up.

It does, now, doesn't it. But I saw it on another
'word of the day site". The connection never occurred to me.

Obambulate is a real word, though archaic. As Luke wrote, he saw it on the A Word A Day site. Here's the explanation: http://wordsmith.org/words/obambulate.html
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

I get at least a half dozen, I believe, of those sites, and just
did not take the time to go look it up. Thanks for doing so.

I guess I was struck not by the word, but the meaning.
Reminds me of a vine that grows around this neck of the
woods, called "wandering jew", also a form of "creeping jenny".
And the 'gypsy' concept, an unappreciated term used for the
Roma. Or perhaps the Australian "walkabout", or the
term "take a hike", for 'scram'.
