Sir Thomas Browne (1605-1682), was an inveterate neologist.
He made up this and many other words out of whole cloth. Some of his coinages are vital to modern scientific discourse. This word never really made it. A Google search shows it to be in Webster's 1913 Dictionary. Grogie, how did you come upon it?
It is dark at night, but the Sun will come up and then we can see.
