Where o where is Lukejavan88?

Postby Perry Lassiter » Tue Aug 28, 2012 9:09 pm

Where o where is Lukejavan88? I miss the lad. I also wonder whether with such a frequent and positive contributor being shut out, if many other infrequent posters and even lurkers are being shut out? Can anyone contact the dude and report back? I thought at one point he and Andrew were in direct communication. Don't want to lose the guy.

I also wonder whether it is better to say whether or if one should say if, or what is the distinction?

Capital J, one 8. LukeJavan8.

He is still blind, as far as I know. He may well have given up by now. Last I knew he could tell something had been posted, but could not read it.

I have his e-mail, but don't feel comfortable just handing it out. If, however, anyone wants to send him a message, send a PM to me and I will copy it and send it on.

There is most definitely something wrong with this. David McWethy has also gone by the wayside.

No need for PM, just please tell him we miss him, and don't give up. Suggest he try to access the site from another computer, perhaps one at the library. I really think a spam filter may be the problem somewhere down the line, perhaps in the local cable. Call the cable guy out.

While I'm truly moved by Slava's comment:
There is most definitely something wrong with this. David McWethy has also gone by the wayside.
I feel it's presumptuous to post the name of a newbie like me who has yet to pay his dues with an obviously well-loved and, sadly, apparently-to-be-missed welcome addition to any verbal jousting.

The explanation for my absence is both simple and boring: The apparently undiagnosable peripheral neuropathy which I've had comes and goes; when it comes all physical movement but the MOST essential goes, and yet the august assemblage of medical experts that has played some role in this unfolding drama still has not, after nearly twelve years, devised an answer, assessment, assumption, belief, conclusion, conjecture, educated guess, estimation, gut feeling, hunch, idea, intuition, opinion, observation, speculation, thought, theory, view or post hoc ergo prompter hoc association regarding a diagnosis of the symptoms observed.

So when I'm not literally here, I'm still here in spirit; faunching at the bit to sally forth once more in search of proof that the "signs of erudition" that one of my early mentors ascribed to me wasn't just a symptom or excess stomach gas.

Ah my old friend peripheral neuropathy, aka PAD. In my case it's muscular, and electric probes show no neuro-muscular response in my legs. On seeing this, the dr said, "but you walked in here." No mystery in may case. Thirty-five years of looslely controlled diabetes. The human body is immensely complicated and weird. The weirdness of computers is nothing.

Where o where is Lukejavan88?
I'm way behind the times here, but is the spare 8 a boo-boo or intentionally adding a syllable?

I think one of his avatars had 88 appended. Anyway, he seems hale, hearty, and back!

Thank you all. I just ran across this thread. Most of the time
I don't peruse all the threads, just stop by for the word of
the day, and that is sad, I know, as I am missing out on some
great discussions.

I don't know how I missed this. But I was out of it for
three weeks, as I could not log on, when the changes occurred
and was more than frustrated. But one day they all just
stopped and I came back and have been on the
word for the day discussion, as you all know.
But I am replying here to let you all know how touched
I am for all the terrific things you all posted on this link
and slava, for the great things you said in your last email.
I truly took them to heart....and as you know, now have
a tablet which I am struggling with.

I still cannot see any more than about a half inch of whatever
is on the left side of the screen. There is an AARP adv there
but there are also other things, and would welcome any
advice as to how to view it. There is no left-right scroll
bar to use. I can see part of the word sponsors(?)
nical, ation, ver, rado, itect, osite, ation. etc. But further left
it will not go.

Again THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for all the kindness on
this thread.

As to viewing the left of the screen, try typing CTRL-. That makes the font size smaller and it all fits. If not, do it again. To go back to the larger size for reading, use CTRL+.

Thanks,
where do I type this?
All caps I presume.
I tried typing it just where I was reading your post
and nothing happened.

Sorry, not quite clear for you as yet. When we speak computerese, CTRL and other such abbreviations means the key marked that way. ESC = escape key, ALT = alt key, CTRL = control key.

So, such commands mean press and hold such-and-such key and then press the other.

THANKS! ! !
That worked great. Being self taught, I need the
show and tell process, and that was a totally new
aspect. I am grateful.

If anyone reads this can you please help.
I have the www.alphadictionary address,
which is how I get here.
But I am cut off, and have emailed Doc
too many times to count. All to no avail.
I don't receive the daily word emails any longer.
And I am cut off from receiving notice when
someone posts on a thread I am commenting on.
(Or 'was' commenting on)
I don't think Doc is receiving my pleas, and
I sure would appreciate some help.

Have you tried signing up with a new name (e.g. formerlyLukejavan) with a new email address?
