NYT article today debunks the secret backroom plots to contrive our language. Reminds me of adds that purport to reveal the secret, hidden books of the Bible, which are neither secret, hidden, of Bible. In fact, you can Google them and read them online free. Here's the article:

Re: Dictionary plots?
The NYT article Perry referenced mentions the book “The Professor and the Madman,” by Simon Winchester. If anyone hasn't read this book, I suggest you read it. It is a true murder mystery starring one of the O.E.D.’s most prolific early contributors, William Minor.
