Wednesday

Postby Slava » Sun Apr 28, 2013 12:24 pm

In the recent discussion of sabotage, the 7th day was mentioned, which made me think (yes, I do that from time to time) of the meaning of Wednesday, which is considered the middle of the week.

It turns out there are two roots, Woden's Day, which is the fourth day of the week; and Mittwokh, the middle of the work week. Which helps explain why sredA is Russian for Wednesday. It means "in the middle."
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

From whence, obviously, is derived the expression "hump day."
