Dilemma/dilemna

You have letters - now what do you do with them?

There seems to be a community of dilemna spellers. I never noticed it until this latest posting. It could put one in a dilemma about whether to spell the word dilemma or dilemna. i suggest we agree on the overwhelming choice of dilemma.

Are you suggesting a committee as they have in
France and Sweden, for instance, who have
oversight on the language?

The one in France a number of years ago was very
upset over the frequently used "le weekend", and
met and then issued the decree it would henceforth
be "le semaine fin".

I would never suggest a watchdog group over the English language such as the one France has over French. Language is a living thing and must live free. Having spent a lot of time in Montreal, I am familiar with the Language Police they have there. At least once a week when I was there someone got arrested for disrespect of the French Language. I asked a cousin, a Francophone who has translated the Bible from French to Haitian, about the quality of French spoken in Montreal. He opined that French Canadians speak French about on a par with Haitian Creole. He may have been a little harsh in his opinion.

'arrested for disrespect of the language".....I cannot
imagine that happening here. I could recommend, however,
about 100 people without giving it a second thought, and
many of them are in the media.
