There were no elaborate permutations on the journey of this word from Latin to English. Enjoy this and its verb mate elide. You will not strike out in adding these beauties to your vocabulary fund. I'm is an elision is grammatically correct.

You mean elide isn't Cockney for "That guy didn't tell the truth!"? :D
