hypocoristic

Postby Flaminius » Sun Oct 30, 2005 12:51 pm

It's not hypocritic nor is it hypochondriac. The "cori-" part is from Greek korizesthai, to caress. It is related to "increase", "create", "recruit", "sincere" and many other Latinite words.

Would our Good Doctor care to cast a light on Germanic kinship for this word?

See here.

It,s wonderful that the English language has such a fancy word(hypocorism) for a term of endearment.
