If I may, quingena, the adjective, should agree with diva, the noun. Both are feminine: singular - diva quingena, plural - divae quingenae.

Oops. I didn't read the entry carefully in Perseus' Lewis and Short, so I didn't notice it was an adjective instead of a noun. I was thinking "Goddess of Five Hundred" so I tried for the genetive of quingena, thinking it was a number/noun. Ah, Mr. Cullen would have had me writing a thousand lines or so! :)

Ah, well, Properare vastitiem facit! (Or should that be Properare vastare est?) Although it took me long enough to find quingena in the first place at Perseus.

Diva nuntius quingenae?

(Goddess of messages five hundred?)

No, that would have been Mr. Smith, in Algebra, with the sawed-off golf club, just a micrometer or so from your fingers on your desk.

liberty cap

NOUN: A brimless, limp, conical cap fitting snugly around the head and given to a slave in ancient Rome upon manumission. It was used as a symbol of liberty by the French revolutionaries and was also worn in the United States before 1800. Also called Phrygian cap.

There was a cartoon in Mad Magazine long, long ago. First panel is a Ku Klux Klan rally with the members in their sheets and pointed hoods. Next panel shows them after the rally with thier hoods off, showing their pointed heads that matched contour of the hoods. So much for pointy-headed liberals!
