Designer watches
The clock is an instrument for measuring time. Watch is the smaller version of clock worn on the wrist. It tells us at any moment what time it is. But what really measures time for us is the sun, or rather the movements of our earth round the sun. We divide time up into years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. Now what we call a year is really simply the time it takes our earth to go once right round the sun. A month is simply the twelfth part of a year; and we divide the year in to twelve parts because it takes about a month for the moon to go round the earth. What we call a day is simply the time it takes our earth to spin round once on itself. For convenience we again divide this day into 24 hrs and every hour into 60 min and every min into 60 sec. A week is 7 of these days and so 4 of these weeks make a month as reckoned by the moon.
In early days, men had to watch the sun and the moon to know the time. But the sun and the moon could only tell them about days and months, not about hours and minutes. The first plan to tell the time more correctly was the sun-tidal which was a round plate of metal ruled in lines to show hours and minutes, with a stick standing up in the centre. The time as told by watching the shadow of this stick as it moved round the marked plate of the dial. The English king Alfred, measured time by burning marked candles. Another plan was the sand-glass which became very much popular afterwards and it continued to be used for quiet a long time. This sand-glass or hour-glass was made that some of the grains of sand would take a certain time (say an hour) to fall from one vessel into another.
But clock is the best instrument for measuring the time. The first clock was made in France in the 14th century. It was moved by hanging weights. The clock moved by a spring was first made in the 16th century. A wound up spring drives a number of wheels so made that they move the hands round on the face of the clock, and these hands as they go round point correctly in turn to the figures on the face marking the hours and the minutes. Of course a watch does not mark years and months and weeks, but it marks all the hours and minutes of one day.
From the beginning from where it all started and people realized the importance of time till now into the supersonic age of the 21st century watches and its concept has undergone a revolutionary change. Watches in earlier days were used by chosen influential few but now it has become a part of dress code. It is now an essential part of life since time management is the most important factor governing our life. If we are late by few minutes we miss the thing what we want to do. From morning to late night sleep everything is based on scheduled time. We sleep in the night giving alarm in the morning we woke up by alarm time do our morning work and start for our school, office, or business. So we cant be late in between or else we have to miss our daily bus or train or flight. Watches are important for students as well in examinations they have to complete the question paper within stipulated time, for sportspersons they have to complete the race or the game in the time given, so time is governing our lives in every aspect.
Watches have also changed a lot. In past years there were mainly two categories of watches gents and ladies. Those watches in those days was spring operated then came the days of battery operated watches. People find it friendlier because you dont need to give the spring a roll for the watch to run. When the battery is over change the cell and put a new one again it starts to work. The latest is the eco-drive watches or the watches that runs on solar energy or light and another type of watch that runs on the nerve impulse or the heart beat which is picked up from the wrist. These eco-drive watches dont require spring or battery to run. The very new addition in this line of modernization of watches is the Designer watches, these designer watches may be gold or platinum or diamond studded.
These are called Designer because they comes in various colours, models, shapes and concept which gives a complete new look to it than the conventional watches. These designer watches are becoming very popular mainly among the young generations boys and girls and also in the older generations to some extent. These watches are so shaped that they can be worn for different occasions, and they are very cool to look at and trendy to wear which makes a fashion statement. There are different lines of designer watches available like the Party watches, Bridal collection, Formal designer watches, there is metallic finish designer watches shiny golden and silver watches and designer watches in different colours to match your dress code. The main reason of the designer watches becoming popular is that you dont have to wear the same watch for your office, party, hangouts, etc., now you could have different sets of watches for every occasion matching your dress and your personality.
Designer watches vary in price they could be from few dollars to several thousand dollars depending on the material with which it is built. The gold, diamond and platinum studded designer watches are the costliest and the one which is only made for its vibrant colour and sexy design costs less.
