Congratulations, Kids! You've completed learning the next round of vocabulary words, and now it's time to review.

Hear It!

formation

Which Means:

The process of making or creating something.

As In:

Image The formation of these mountains took millions of years.

Heads Up!

The suffix -tion expresses either an action or a state.

Hear It!

livestock

Which Means:

The animals on a farm, like horses, sheep, and cows.

As In:

Image We have several kinds of livestock on our farm, but only a goat and cow are in this picture.

Heads Up!

When you have a stock of something, you have a supply. On a farm, the stock is 'alive' and gives us the word 'livestock.'

compare

Which Means:

To put two or more things side-by-side and see if they are alike.

As In:

Image Compare the two trees near the house. What do they have in common?

What is it called when you find the differences between two or more things?

glistened

Which Means:

Shone and sparkled, shimmered.

As In:

Image Samantha exercised so hard that the sweat glistened on her body.

Which Means:

An expert; a person who knows a lot about a certain topic.

As In:

Image Curtis has studied the Antartica for 30 years. He's the maven you want to ask!

onlookers

Which Means:

People who are standing nearby, watching an event, witnesses.

As In:

Image Several onlookers watched Dean's special bowling style.

Why might these people called 'onlookers'?

shrieking

Which Means:

Screaming and yelling at a high pitch.

As In:

Image Elaine started to become nervous when she couldn't calm her shrieking baby.

Heads Up!

Shriek is the base verb of 'shrieking', and can also be used as a noun.

escort

Which Means:

To guide, lead, or go with someone.

As In:

Image The policemen will escort the criminal to prison.

Heads Up!

'Escort' can also be the person who does the escorting: The student needed an escort to the principal's office.

coincidence

Which Means:

Two events that accidentally happen at the same time.

As In:

Image It's a coincidence that these two look alike because they're not related!

Heads Up!

There are no Ss in this word, only Cs!

landmark

Which Means:

A place or thing that is well-known for being different for its history.

As In:

Image The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France is a famous landmark.

Heads Up!

A person can also reach a landmark in life, an important point or event that somehow changes them.
