Which Means:

Strong, mighty.

As In:

Image The powerful backhoe scooped up dirt and rocks.

Heads Up!

The suffix -ful means that it is "full" of the word it is attached to; in this case, it's full of power.

Hear It!

darkness

Which Means:

No light at all, the blackness of night.

As In:

Image Wade shined the flashlight through the darkness toward his tent.

The suffix -NESS means state of being.

Hear It!

breathless

Which Means:

Out of air that is inhaled and exhaled from lungs.

As In:

Image Christina was breathless after exercising on her stationary bike.

The suffix -LESS means lacking, or without.

Hear It!

occupant

Which Means:

Someone who lives somewhere.

As In:

Image Jesse has been an occupant of an apartment on the third floor for 14 years.

The suffix -ANT makes a noun meaning "someone or something that does something": contestant, deodorant.

Which Means:

The act of creating or building something, or the way it was made.

As In:

Image Fido finished the construction of his dog house today.
