Hear It!

calves

Which Means:

The plural of 'calf': a baby cow, or the muscle on the lower backside of the leg.

As In:

Image The farmer woke early to feed the calves.

Heads Up!

To form the plural in some words ending in F, change the F to V and add -ES: calves, loaves, wolves.

Hear It!

shovels

Which Means:

The plural of 'shovel': a spade- or square-shaped tool on the end of a long handle, used for digging holes.

As In:

Image Mia had to choose and buy one of the several shovels at the hardware store.

Heads Up!

To most words, add -S or -ES to the end to form the plural.

Hear It!

butterflies

Which Means:

The plural for 'butterfly': an insect with antennae, a slender body, and large wings often covered with markings.

As In:

Image Above the grassy meadow fly butterflies of every color.

Heads Up!

If there is a consonant before the Y, change the Y to I and add -ES.

Hear It!

volcanoes

Which Means:

The plural of 'volcano': an opening in the earth's crust that lava, ash, and gases flow through during an eruption.

As In:

Image There are several volcanoes located throughout the world. Where are they in your country?

Heads Up!

To change words ending in O to plural, add and -ES: tomatoes, potatoes.

Hear It!

sheep

Which Means:

The plural of 'sheep':

As In:

Image Sheep graze in the green pasture.

Heads Up!

Some words don't change in the plural form: deer, fish (sometimes).
