Hear It!

fairness

Which Means:

The state or act of being just, equal, or free from lies or wrong judgment.

As In:

Image The judge rules the courtroom with fairness.

Heads Up!

The suffix -NESS is added to adjectives to form a noun, showing a state or quality.

protection

Which Means:

Shelter from harm or injury, defense from a threat.

As In:

Image The construction workers wear hard hats and ear phones as protection against falling objects and noise.

Heads Up!

The suffix -TION is added to adjectives to form a noun, showing a state or action.

Hear It!

adorable

Which Means:

Very cute and delightful, charming.

As In:

Image Gordon wore the most adorable hat and mittens today!

Heads Up!

Here the suffix -ABLE is attached to a verb to form an adjective. In 'adorable', remember to drop the E in 'adore' before adding -ABLE.

acquaintance

Which Means:

A person you know who is not a friend or relative; someone you have met only a few times and don't know closely.

As In:

Image The men knew each other through a mutual acquaintance at their job.

Heads Up!

Become an acquaintance with this word and its spelling: AC-QUAINT-ANCE.

tentative

Which Means:

Done as an experiment or on a temporary basis; unsure, hesitant.

As In:

Image Our plans for travel this weekend are tentative; if the weather is snowy, we will stay home.

The 'tent' in tentative is not tentative.
