Which Means:

An organ in the brain that specializes in memory and spatial organization.

As In:

Image The woman suffered from a major head injury and might have damaged her hippocampus. She had amnesia and couldn't remember anything.

Heads Up!

This word comes from the Greek word hippokampos, which means 'sea monster'.

Hear It!

oxygen

Which Means:

A gas in the atmosphere (air) that is necessary for animals to breathe and live.

As In:

Image The diver had an oxygen tank so he could dive deeper into the water.

Heads Up!

The short I sound is spelled with a Y in 'oxygen'.

clinic

Which Means:

A small hospital or office where the sick are treated.

As In:

Image The baby had to go for a check-up at the clinic.

Heads Up!

There are two Cs and two Is in 'clinic'. Both Cs have a hard K sound.

Which Means:

A tooth with a wide top used to grind food, found near the back of the mouth.

As In:

Image The boy had a cavity in his molar.
