Hear It!

rhythmically

Which Means:

With a regular beat or tempo.

As In:

Image The mouse beat the drum rhythmically.

Heads Up!

This might be a tricky word, with a Y between RH and TH.

petticoat

Which Means:

An old-fashioned underskirt with ruffles, often worn under a regular skirt.

As In:

Image Gaby had to wear a petticoat as a part of her costume for the play.

Heads Up!

Although it might be pretty, it is just a 'petticoat'.

sophisticated

Which Means:

Being more refined, elegant, complex, or detailed (not simple or plain).

As In:

Image The couple was invited to a sophisticated party and must dress their best.

The F sound in 'sophisticated' is spelled with a PH.

Which Means:

A notice of possible danger, advance alert of a threat or risk.

As In:

Image Street signs provide a warning about what to pay attention to while driving.

If you take away the -ING, you have the verb 'warn'.

Which Means:

Strength, the ability to do something or act.

As In:

Image She didn't have the power to say no to chocolate cake!

There is a big POW in 'power'.

Which Means:

To get something and call it your own.

As In:

Image He wanted to acquire an active dog who loved running. This bulldog might not be the one.

Spell the KW sound with CQU.

Which Means:

A cabinet or other container that holds papers, documents, bills and letters in an organized way.

As In:

Image We put all of our paid bills in the file.

File can also be a verb, which means to put in a file.

spongy

Which Means:

Soft and stretchy, having holes and the ability to soak up liquid.

As In:

Image The cake was light, spongy, and delicious.

Heads Up!

Even though there is an E in 'sponge', the Y takes its place in 'spongy'.

nation

Which Means:

A group of people who live in a certain country, and who have a common ancestry, language, culture, or race.

As In:

Image Every nation is represented by a flag.

Heads Up!

The suffix -TION is pronounced SHUN.

Hear It!

fabric

Which Means:

Cloth or woven material, used to make things like clothing, curtains, furniture.

As In:

Image The seamstress got a few bolts of fabric to make a dress.

Heads Up!

The C in 'fabric' makes a hard K sound.
