Re: Saucy

Here in the hinterlands it is sassy. A warning to an impertinent child might be, "Don't give me none a yore sass."

Re: Orange

bbeeton: William and Mary's original school colors were orange and white. I read one reference that they were changed to orange and black because the white kept getting dirty. I am not sure of that. They also had problems over their school mascot being an American Indian. They recently changed it to...

Re: Orange

We had a housekeeper from Jamaica who spoke Cockney, or so she said. She said happle for apple and harrange for orange. Also remember that the Northern Irelanders sometimes wear orange instead of green. An Aussie friend says that in Australia those who wear the green on Saint Paddy's march toward th...

Re: Peregrination

I once had occasion to create the illusion of something moving randomly around by a computer that was used to test another computer program which was to track the movements. One of my coworkers called the test program a peregrinating parrot.

Re: Orange

Of the two pronunciations, o-rinj and ah-rinj. I suppose o-rinj is correct for southerners while ah-rinj is correct for Yankees. As an undergraduate [many years ago] I changed majors a few times. My final major of math required more "humanities" than engineering did. I took Speech and the professor ...

Definition 3 is the only one known here in the hinterlands. a frequent comment is, "Glom on that!" This is an old thread. My good friend Perry Lassiter commented. He shuffled off his mortal coil some years ago.

Yes, there is big difference between moderation and temperance. I personally opt for temperance. Except for communion wine in churches who use actual wine and not grape juice, I never touch the stuff. You are welcome to moderation with my blessings.

David: I did enjoy some of your friend's poetry. I shall read more. I also like your Aussie word bloke. It is rarely used here in the hinterlands of the USA.

Ceniza AKA purple sage is so named for the smoky green color of its leaves. It is a plant native to south Texas. Its flowers are a smoky purple and they are apt to bloom almost any time except in the dead of winter. The Purple Sage Honky-tonk in the Texas county of my youth was smoke filled.

Re: Asafetida

There is a lot of syncretizing going on. I may get some disagreement on this but witness the Masonic Lodge and its "architect of the universe." And yet many Christians are Masons. When my sainted grandfather embraced the Christian faith, he resigned from the lodge and the KKK. He was wont to say the...

Re: Asafetida

Mestizo curadors were [and perhaps are] an influential force in south Texas culture. However the curador I mentioned above was an African American. Mestizo curadors were also religious leaders and were the bane of the Church [Catholic and Protestant]. They were much like the Haitian voodoo priests o...
