Re: Morganatic

If England wants to keep a monarchy, Prince Charles should pass the monarchy on to his son. Charles is a good farmer, so I have read.

Re: Macabre

Sounds great Luke. In my dotage, the no-new-tricks-for-old-dogs runs rampant in my brain. The wife of a Spanish language pastor once told me that she was worried about my poor Spanish. "How are you going to talk to the people in Heaven with your poor Spanish?" she asked.

Re: Excrescence

Amen to: "American mystery thrillers are filled with an overwhelming excrescence of detail in murders, splashing blood, closeups of bullet holes, dismembered body parts, all in disgusting superfluity." There is so much blood and gore in the average TV "detective" program that it would gag a maggot.

Re: Hygge

Gemütlich is one of my favorite German words. It is strange that one language may have a word that takes more words than one to really tell what it means in another language. I want to adopt them.

Hey, Luke. I am not much of a Spanish scholar. In Texas there is a need for knowing more Spanish. i struggle along with my trabajo español and a little español doméstico --- Spanish in the work place and in the home that I picked up on the farm and while teaching the Bible to Hispanic children who b...

Re: Macabre

Día de Muertos means Day of the Dead which is celebrated as a sort of three day Halloween in Mexico. Some might think it macabre but the Mexicans don't. Dios de Muertos means God of the Dead. The Great I AM, however es dios de los vivos, no dios de los muertos. [excuse my poor Spanish]

Re: Lave

Lord, deliver me from Laverbread or any related comestible whether from Wales or any other place. Seaweed is not on my diet. I have numerous Japanese and Chinese friends and they try to sneak a little seaweed into my diet on occasion. So far they haven't fooled me. My Welsh ancestors may have eaten ...

Re: Alible

Aren't potato chips alible? I thought they were among the basic food groups. I guess I will just have to revert to Fritos Corn Chips, the food of my childhood. If you aren't aware of the origin of Fritos, you may want to know they were made public when Gustavo Olguin of San Antonio sold his recipe t...

If you don't think you had a sainted mother, you might want to review your history. Because there are and were a lot of them. Mine among them.

There is mediocrity in the current Supreme Court. Throw in a big dose of skullduggery while you are at it. But don't say you heard it from me.

Re: DOPPELGANGER

Words such as DOPPELGANGER and Schadenfreude are imported full blown from other languages - in this case German. The etymology of those words differ in degree if not in kind from PIE rooted words. We could well do without some of them. This also goes for many Yiddish words. But prejudice could play ...

We have them. Doesn't everyone? Arm rest sleeves too. My office chair is shedding its skin. It falls on the floor in small black strips. It needs help. Perhaps I need a new one.
