Re: Fume

Interesting that perfumes are usually pleasant, while simple fumes are usually considered noxious or annoying.

Nice one with Indy Nile, by the by. Maybe she can go shopping again now.

Re: But Isn’t Any More?

It sounds suspiciously as if you expected a modicum of proper grammar out there in the internot. I think I lost hope when I read of how the officer who died in the January insurrection "lied in State." Perjury after death?  :?

Re: Companion -ship, company

I'm pretty much always up for a cinnamon roll. Warm, with icing. Pecans or walnuts are good, too. The problem being, though, that they keep company with me for too long, leading to large waist problems.

Re: BONFIRE

It is rather blasphemous, but I keep wishing my stamp club would have a bonfire where we burned all of our damaged stamps.

"Ricky T. Bridges is a man of such protean political views, it is difficult to say what position he would hold on managing the nation's infrastructure."

I guess trying to pin him down would put you on shaky ground.

Re: Perquisite

"Farnsworth had all the perquisites of an outstanding car salesman."

How does perquisite differ from prerequisite in this sentence? I'd say it would require a slight change in wording, prerequisites to be an..., but the meaning is the same, no?

Backstage at the Strips is one of my favorite books. Always nice to be reminded of it and see that others are still enjoying it. :D :D

Elfdalian Anyone?

Here's a language you can pick up, should you need a spare:

I hope they manage to get the government to recognize it.

Re: Cheugy

Well, this is a surprise. It turns out this word is well-enough-known to be used in a New Yorker cartoon: https://media.newyorker.com/cartoons/6093fb3a76793ed378c8ef70/master/w_1280%2Cc_limit/A25436.jpg Thanks to David, I actually got this one. I'd never come across the term before he posted it, so ...

Nidus isn't a strictly medical term, as we (at least here in the US) will soon find out when the latest batch of cicadas hatches out of their nidi.

It's interesting how all of the middling words mean poor now. Fair, mediocre, standard, average, par for the course, 3 out of 5 stars, a grade of C, etc. To be average, you must be above average. :?

Word

So common the search function here won't let me look for it, but as far as I can tell, we have never actually had Word as a Word. Feel free to vote on it. Not that this is a democracy, though, so it's really up to the Doctor. I just felt like posting a poll. I am Polish, after all. Ma...
