Re: Progue

Is this used in the English-speaking world? Or only when an author is writing a Scottish character? I'd stick with prod, myself.

Re: bee

I've always liked the phrase 'bee in one's bonnet'. Come to find out, it used to mean twitter-pated or a bit crazy, not just somewhat obsessing over something.

Re: Gamine

Oddly, it appears to have taken some 60+ years for the French to add the e to gamin, the boy form of this word.

Re: Forte

In French fort , is that terminal T pronounced? Or does it come out as 'for'? It's been a while since high school, when I took French. And, in Italian, how does the end E get pronounced? Eh or Ey are my choices. Either way, I stick to the two syllable pronuncification of forte. I might even get carr...

Re: Crowdsource

Following right on its heels came crowdfund, getting lots of people to give you money for basically nothing. You asked, they gave.

Re: Seldom

The Germanic versions make me wonder about names. Debbie Reynolds was Kathy Selden in "Singin' in the Rain." Would there be any meaning to a last name that means 'not often'? Is she a rara avis, perhaps?

Re: Not receiving GW in e-mail?

I haven't gotten my subscription e-mail since June 4, 2021. I see it in other ways, so it's not a big deal, but it is odd that registrations can get ghosted from time to time.

I assure you, it was intentional. I especially like to use it when I don't find what I need, or when what I do get is completely off the mark.

Re: Pertinacious

I get the impression that one way to look at the difference in meaning between pertinacious and tenacious is that pertinacity is tenacity I don't agree with.
