Re: Pertinacious

I get the impression that one way to look at the difference in meaning between pertinacious and tenacious is that pertinacity is tenacity I don't agree with.

Re: BLANDISHMENT

One may blandish with a carrot while brandishing a stick.

I wish we could find the blandishments needed to get more people to vote.

Re: brim

If you can convert it to plain text, you can post it directly as such. You could also make it a jpeg, then all you have to worry about is file size.

Re: Happenstance

Happenstance and serendipity are pretty much synonyms, then.

As to happy, I like to say that happiness happens. It's not something that can be maintained. Which is why we have the pursuit of happiness, not the perpetual state of such.

Much to my wonder, they are related.

I also found the term for the quality of being the class clown: pupillarity. :D Not really.

Re: Orange

Hobart College (Geneva, NY) and Syracuse University (also NY) both use the color orange in their uniforms, and are thus called the Orangemen. Though where the names of colors comes from is a difficult question, I'd love to know if we have any idea of where the Dravidians came up with their word. Was...

Re: Entresalue

A minor addition and you can have a fancy title for a Walmart worker: the entresaluter, aka greeter. Even fancier, perhaps for an upscale-ish Walmart, would be entresalutarian. Or is that the welcoming speech to first-year students at college?

I expect this one's a good one to dig up for this day and age, the age of covidiocy and the resultant feelings of frustration most are experiencing. Then again, anyone dealing with any official redtape or bureaucratic nonsense also knows the feeling.

Re: Paramour

I guess illegality or illicitness would depend on the point of view of the religion, the country, and the 'other half'. Since infidelity is considered cause for divorce, a paramour would be illicit in most cases. Perhaps, if it's okay with the spouse, such a lover would be called something else. A l...
