Re: Tarnation

So I guess I've been uncleing for twenty-eight years? Or is it uncling? I think I like it better with the "e"; without, it looks like "un-cling." :)

Re: Hapax legomenon

Some years ago there was actually a Google "game" similar to this, finding terms or phrases that return exactly one result in Google searches.

Re: Artisan

The "hipster" crowd in larger cities overuse the idea of artisan and artisanal, though; a friend in Philadelphia told me of seeing a shop selling "artisanal water."

Re: Bight

I've seen an area of the sea off the coast of West Africa called the Bight of Benin and wondered about the word, but never looked it up. Thanks for including this Good Word. :)

Re: Hobnob

Wordie sounds just right to me, despite the potential confusion with wordy -- in fact, there once was a site for people "excessively fond of words," as you put it, but wordies.org is no longer online. :|

Re: Crapulence

Well, as my fellow Miamian, the author Dave Barry, has written, "You can only be young once. But you can always be immature." :D I love reading Dave Barry. My favorite quote of his is a paraprosdokian I've quoted here before: "For a long time I've wanted to tell this story very badly, and I think I...

Re: Are you receiving GWs by e-mail now?

Vest was the first GW email I got in months, though I'd been receiving notices of new posts to "Good Word Discussion" since October. Glad to hear you're doing better, Dr. Goodword. I hope you continue to improve!

Re: Magniloquent

I've been aware of this word and grandiloquent for many years though I've seen and heard grandiloquent[/b] much more often. In light of the example of description of military service, I wonder: would either word fit when someone describes their service as being "stationed on some islands in the Nort...

Re: Booze

An acquaintance in California (who's been out of touch for a bit) had a habit of using British spellings and expressions: ending words in -our where Americans usually use -or , spellings like programme , and so on. For years he ended emails to a Yahoo group we're both in with "Cheers," leading me to...

Re: PAROXYSM

This seems to be a Good Word :D for what issues forth from the news reporter in this Youtube clip: https://youtu.be/FhSTwmosFxM?t=10

I was thinking apoplexy but that seems to be more specifically medical. :?
