Re: How do you say "cash"

Everyone always laughs at me for the way "cash," "bash," and "trash." Does anyone know what part of the country pronounces it with a slightly shortened long A sound?
That more frontal A (close to 'eh') I seem to hear around Chicago and GreatLakes.

Re: Question 13...

The Old Road (The one replaced by the Interstate!)

As I understood it the question refers to a small local 2-lane road that runs along a bigger highway (not necessarily an Interstate) for a short run, and not the old U.S. highway that the Interstate replaces...

frontage roads?

If made cold, it was still a sub or hero, not a G...

another soda/pop term -and unsweet tea

Grew up in Southeast PA but have lived all over- in Eastern PA we were drinking soda while our interstate rivals in Pittsburg were drinking pop, which I've also heard from there, across Ohio and definitely into Michigan and Illinois. In New Orleans, like so many other things, none of the above apply...

verb reversal and "Wayat"

Having lived in New Orleans 12 years (Wayat Katrina!), I've heard people all over the city reversing verb order on questions, e.g. "Who dat is?". One time a little kid pointed to a stuffed doll on my desk and proclaimed, "I can have that" -took me a minute to realise he meant it ...
