Re: Clickbait

The kind of clickbait I don't like is the type like Luke described, where the link teases info about a person who is not included on the target website, or a "photo" of an event that never actually happened.

Re: alphaDictionary.com IS NOW "MOBILE-FRIENDLY"!

Thanks Doc! I've always been able to see the site on my tablet OK, but I'd have to turn the phone sideways to see it, and then replying was a chore because the reply box would take up most of the screen. This helps greatly.

Re: Erewhon

Is Erewhon anywhere near Waikikamukau (pronounced "why-kick-a-moo-cow")? That's New Zealand's "middle of nowhere." :)

Re: Harass

Doc, you posted two possible pronunciations of this word: the one I always thought was correct ("her ass" :)), and the one I seem to hear all the time from the media ("Harris"). Are both actually acceptable?

Re: Yacht

This etymology intrigued me enough to go and look up Jägermeister , which based on "yacht" I expected to have something to do with a high-ranking pirate. I was way off. Here's what I found: Curt Mast, the original distiller of Jägermeister and son of the founder Wilhelm, was an enthusiasti...

Re: Internecine

Because I've seen internecine so often used for discord within an organization or group (civil war, family feud, office cliques, etc.) I always assumed the origin had something to do with family or relationship.

Re: Tarnation

So I guess I've been uncleing for twenty-eight years? Or is it uncling? I think I like it better with the "e"; without, it looks like "un-cling." :)

Some years ago there was actually a Google "game" similar to this, finding terms or phrases that return exactly one result in Google searches.

Re: Artisan

The "hipster" crowd in larger cities overuse the idea of artisan and artisanal, though; a friend in Philadelphia told me of seeing a shop selling "artisanal water."

I've seen an area of the sea off the coast of West Africa called the Bight of Benin and wondered about the word, but never looked it up. Thanks for including this Good Word. :)
