All of us here in the hinterlands pronounce the e in forte 'n we ain't agonna change fer nobody. The only use we make of the word is as a musical term.

In England I have heard the catalpa called an Indian bean tree. Call it what you like but don't set one out in your yard. There was one in my back yard when I moved here 60 years ago. It was the first to go.

There is the phrase "one fell swoop" which means a sudden action. It is attributed to the Bard. I have used it time out of mind. My father-in-law said, "One foul swoop", and I referred him to Shakespeare. He was a devotee of the Bard having some slight experience on the stage him...

This word [first definition] accurately defines my brain as I move further into senior citizenship. However, I prefer to be called discombobulated as it is such a neat sounding word.

There is "jury rigged" which is different than a rigged jury. Then there is a certain American unnamed politician [so called] who thinks elections are rigged if he doesn't win.
