looking for a word

Postby damoge » Thu Jul 02, 2020 12:18 pm

Is there a word for what I've always thought of as "word fragments"?
There are prefixes and suffixes, but that tells you where to put them. What about the middle part? The core of the word?
ob nox ious
for example.
There must be something that covers all three?
Everything works out, one way or another

The morpheme you are looking for is "morpheme," sometimes defined as "the most elemental grammatical units in a language" But Dr Goodword argues there are lexemes and morphemes. For his take on this see
https://www.alphadictionary.com/articles/ling005.html
(Under the general heading of GW Office)

And may I add that I do not think "Good Word Discussion" is the best place to post this query. I believe the "Good Word Discussion" forum is intended for the discussion of the various Good Words posted almost daily by the good doctor Goodword. If none of the other (underutilized) headings listed on the Agora seems appropriate, then Res Diverse is available.
