I know, skinem, and to be honest, artists do curl their lips in disdain at those who confuse possession of a tool with proficiency with a tool. (It's my understanding that plumbers and building contractors have similar worldviews -- ha!--) ...
I know HOW to play a guitar; that doesn't mean I play it WELL.
I HAVE a banjo; that doesn't mean I can play it...

Somebody sent me this site and I am still laughing. I am particularly fond of...
Ecce potestas casei
Unfortuately, I don't know enough Latin to actually pronounce it!

I am not sure which Latin sites y'all are referring to,
but I found two of them very much alive.

What does the "ecce potestas casei" mean, please????

Welcome, and thanks for resurrecting this thread, which I am totally enjoying, both for the Latin and photo stuff. Personally, I'm cheap and use the free Picasa program. The main advantage for me is that I can take faster digital shots and correct them later. My camera has a delay between press and snap, a problem many digitals have, or so I have been told. Now I can snap sooner, and if the face moves out of the light, I can brighten it. Or if it's over exposed, I can add shadow. If you aspire for "art," take lots of shots and crop.

Dear Westminster88,

Are you a real person, or just a spammer? Please delete your advertisement if you are real. Otherwise the board owner will delete you.

Back to the thread, which the spammer (?) resurrected. My favorite is "illegitimi non carborundum est," or that's how I recall it, though it always seemed bad latin phraseology tho apt. "Don't let the b******s grind you down."

My sister sent this to me and told me someone in her office sent it out to everyone.

No one has yet mentioned another value of computerized photography. With Picasa, a free manipulation program, I can worry less when a quick photo-op shows up. I can grab my camera or iphone and snap quick, adjust later. If I catch a kid looking cute in the dark and the camera can't open the shutter wide enough, I can add fill light. It's amazing how clear some shots become I never would have attempted before. Likewise, you can catch action shots on the spot without haveing to frame them - crop them later. Sure, a pro would do better, but that's why she's a pro. The point is, by enhancing the data, I've got good pics I wouldn't have without it.
