Another name for soft drinks

One option that was not provided for soft drinks was DOPE. This is what it was called at Duke University, at least in the late 1950s, and I assume it was more widespread than that in the North Carolina area. The campus store where you could buy soft drinks was called the Dope Shop. I always thought it was interesting and assume it had its origins in the use of cocaine in the original Coca Cola.

I wasn't around in the late 50s, so I can't comment much on this one. I like the thought behind the etymology, though. Would any of our new members care to opine here? New blood and eyes and minds might be able to cut through this matter.

"Coke" is used as synonymous with "pop" or "soda" or even " drink." But to my ear both soda and pop sound wrong. More likely to say "coke" or "drink."
