I've always gone for #2, but now that I've looked it up, it appears I have been wrong all these years.

Yeah, that's what i saw, but the first one i posted was first in the dictionary, and i prefer the second, or even more the French one.

Yeah, that's what i saw, but the first one i posted was first in the dictionary, and I prefer the second, or even more the French one, but only if it's the only word in the sentance.

You won’t find for-mid’-able in older dictionaries, or in the OED in this moment. It’s given, where it is, to reflect widespread ignorance.
Before you get all exercised, remember that ‘ignorance’ means ‘lack of knowledge’, not ‘stupidity’.
