cinereal

Postby markasch » Tue May 05, 2020 12:34 pm

I ran across this word while reading John Banville's novel The Sea. I immediately found three usages. Ashen is one, with connections to incinerate and cinder, among others. A second usage was to describe the gray matter of the brain or spinal chord (the cinerea). And the third was a character in a self-published web serial by John McRae. I had never come across the word before, not being a brain surgeon or a web serial reader (though I did study Latin in high school!). Thought it was interesting.

Taken up and treated here.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
