Performative

Postby Slava » Fri Feb 19, 2021 12:10 pm

I thought I'd just seen this one here, but if I did I can't find it, so here it is.

Performative - done for the sake of "optics." Doing something in order to do something, but not necessarily with any real meaning or value to the action. Apologies from entertainment stars or politicians are often performative.

One can also be caught between a rock and a hard place: "Any response that X offered would be performative, rather than actually useful." (The quote is from the Atlantic; I just took out the name to keep it somewhat apolitical.)
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
