primer

Postby bbeeton » Tue Jul 06, 2021 2:22 pm

Two meanings, differentiated by pronunciation.

A teaching aid, often a book that can be understood by an elementary learner, pronounced as in "prim and proper".

An object or substance used to start a reaction, pronounced as in "prime number".

Challenge: create a primer (in the first sense) on how to create a primer (in the second sense). Or, deploy a primer (second sense) to instigate the development of a primer (first sense).

I've never liked the primmer pronunciation of primer. In an educational sense, it's the prime text used to prime the firing pan of knowledge. Primmer is the comparative of prim. :)
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
