Celadon
Celadon is a semi-transparent pale-green ceramic glaze that was developed in China during the Sung Dynasty (9th - 13th cent). The color is due to a small amount of iron oxide in a basic glaze fired in a "reducing" (oxide deprived) atmosphere. It is used on stoneware, but achieves maximum effect on porcelain. Its name was actually given by French collectors, after the shepherd Celadon in Honoré d'Urfé's French pastoral romance "L'Astrée", who wore pale green ribbons.

Re: Celadon
Welcome to the Agora, waseeley!
It turns out this one's even deeper, being an eponym of an eponym. d'Urfé's Celadon is named after Ovid's Celadon. I wonder, is there a word for an eponymous eponym?

Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
