antiphonal

Postby bbeeton » Sun Apr 10, 2022 2:17 pm

Suggested by, but not following the logic of, Anglophone, but also based on the "phon/phone" component.

To me, this implies a call-and-response situation. Looking it up, I was surprised to learn that there is actually an "antiphon", a short piece of religious text used responsively. Is there any other situation in which this term applies?

Well, in response, I'd say I'm rather antiphonal at times, but that's because I really don't like people using their mobiles everywhere and anywhere and at all times.

I suppose I could be (an) antiphonary, but that's a book of antiphons.
