Chink

Postby David Myer » Tue Jun 07, 2022 3:21 am

What I like about this one is that many of the synonymous words are equally appealing - fissure, crevice, crack, slit, cleft and so on.

Presumably a well established word?

16th century. Does that qualify as established?

From the idea of splitting. As seeds might be said to chink open when they germinate.

The other, non-abusive, chink, of metallic money, is onomatopoeic.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
