quashal

Postby bbeeton » Wed Aug 24, 2022 11:57 am

"Quash" is a familiar enough, meaning approximately "make it go away". But I'd never seen or heard "quashal" until today. It appears to be the noun describing the action, and apparently known only as legal jargon.

"Quash" appears here in the discussion of "succuss". A common root also spawned "squash", an action often visited on an unwelcome bug. Today's reference was seen in reference to a subpoena, which is about as welcome as many bugs, although sometimes richly deserved.

Hmm, quash comes from two unrelated words that happened to be spelled the same. Kinda cool. 8)
