Titrate is a word used in chemistry, and also - most familiarly - in medicine. In the latter the meaning is to "continuously measure and adjust the balance of (a physiological function or drug dosage)."
When a doctor prescribes a new medication, s/he may tell the patient to gradually increase the dosage over a period of time. The same process takes place when quitting a medication: gradual reduction of doses. That's titration in the medical sense.
The word titration is increasingly being used for the gradual application or withdrawing of an action based on observation. For example, titrating weapons to Ukraine based on progress toward a stated goal.

Re: Titrate
Does anyone know if there is a specific term for rapidly flooding a system with the cure, and then cutting it off once the crisis is over?
On a military note, I feel titration of weaponry would be a fairly sure method of making sure the conflict lasts as long as possible. Surely, a flood would be preferable to a freshet?

Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
