led

Postby bbeeton » Thu Sep 22, 2022 10:56 am

As a verb, "led" is the past tense of "lead".

No, "lead" is not the past tense. When pronounced the same as "led", "lead" is a very heavy metal, as used to weigh down plumb lines.

"Led Zeppelin" produces very heavy metal music, and seems to be using the spelling/pronunciation difference punnishly.

In all caps, "LED" is a light-emitting diode, which, requiring less electricity than incandescent lights and also lasting longer, is now replacing those in uses like automobile headlights, traffic signals, and interior lighting, as well as in its original use as indicator lights on electronic equipment.

I just fell down the rabbit hole with this one. I went from led to lead to lead to graphite to pencil to penicillin. Whew, made it! :)
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
